What's your Love Language?

Love is such a beautiful chaos.

We all have such different ways of expressing our love to different people. Proper expression is just as important, if not more important, than the sentiment behind it (and this applies for so many things in our life).

Perhaps some of you have heard of Gary Chapman's book and concept "The 5 Love Languages" before?

It is essentially five ways people experience and express love:

1. Words of Affirmation
2. Physical Touch
3. Acts of Service
4. Gift Giving
5. Quality Time

I love figuring out, or properly finding out, what kind of love language my family and friends are, so that no love gets lost in translation. The books says we should focus on using the love language that your loved one will receive best, as opposed to the one we like the most.

Learning to love people the way people need, want, appreciate, recognise and actually register is such a good lesson in life.

I could talk about this more, but I so encourage you to take the quiz for yourself, it takes anywhere between 5-10 minutes and gives you such great understanding!

At the end of the quiz they email you your profile, for example, mine is below!

"The 5 Love Languages® profile will give you a thorough analysis of your emotional communication preference. It will single out your primary love language, what it means, and how you can use it to connect and deepen your relationships with others.

The highest score indicates your primary love language. It’s common to have two high scores (the highest score being 12), although one language tends to have a slight edge for most people. The lower scores in your profile indicate those languages you seldom use to communicate love and which probably don’t affect you on an emotional level in your relationship.

Words of Affirmation
Actions don't always speak louder than words. If this is your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you. Hearing the words, "I love you," are important – hearing the reasons behind that love sends your spirits skyward. Insults can leave you shattered and are not easily forgotten. Kind, encouraging, and positive words are truly life-giving.

Quality Time
In the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing says, "I love you," like full, undivided attention. Being there for this type of person is critical, but really being there – with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chores and tasks on standby – makes your significant other feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful. Quality Time also means sharing quality conversation and quality activities.

Acts of Service
Can vacuuming the floors really be an expression of love? Absolutely! Anything you do to ease the burden of responsibilities weighing on an "Acts of Service" person will speak volumes. The words he or she most want to hear: "Let me do that for you." Laziness, broken commitments, and making more work for them tell speakers of this language their feelings don't matter. Finding ways to serve speaks volumes to the recipient of these acts.

Physical Touch
This language isn't all about the bedroom. A person whose primary language is Physical Touch is, not surprisingly, very touchy. Hugs, pats on the back, holding hands, and thoughtful touches on the arm, shoulder, or face – they can all be ways to show excitement, concern, care, and love. Physical presence and accessibility are crucial, while neglect or abuse can be unforgivable and destructive. Physical touch fosters a sense of security and belonging in any relationship.

Receiving Gifts
Don't mistake this love language for materialism; the receiver of gifts thrives on the love, thoughtfulness, and effort behind the gift. If you speak this language, the perfect gift or gesture shows that you are known, you are cared for, and you are prized above whatever was sacrificed to bring the gift to you. A missed birthday, anniversary, or a hasty, thoughtless gift would be disastrous – so would the absence of everyday gestures. Gifts are visual representations of love and are treasured greatly."

As you can see, Words of Affirmation and Quality Time are my most prioritised languages!

Let me know if you have heard of this before, take the quiz or what your love languages are in the comments below! And if you feel like, pass this onto your loved ones, I know I have and it really helps you understand each other better!

Get to know me! The Liebster Award.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

This week's post will be about the Liebster Award!
Thank you so much to the lovely Franziska for the nomination  ☺️
Essentially, this award is all about giving everyone the opportunity to discover some new blogs - and I just love that! There are so many great bloggers out there to get to know!

The award is celebrated with ten personal questions and answers, and then I'll nominate other bloggers with another set of 10 questions!

So, if you want to get to know me a bit better, read below!

Franziska's Questions for Me

1. What is your favourite makeup brand?
Hmmm, is it bad that I'm not too sure? I only really got into makeup recently (you can thank all the Youtube Beauty Vloggers for that :P), so I'm aware of really good brands, but I'm yet to try them! My makeup collection currently has items from Nars (which so far I adore), Napoleon Perdis, Revlon, Loreal, Clarins and one bronzer from Mac. I'm getting keen to buy my first Mac lipstick soon! Hehe.

2. What's your favourite social media?
I love Facebook for my friends and family, but I think overall I love Instagram a whole lot. It is definitely a source of daily inspiration, and if you’re like me and follow quote accounts it definitely brings some positivity into your day! It’s such a fun, interesting and visually pleasing platform.

That being said, I adore tumblr for similar, but also different reasons. Tumblr gives such freedom of expression, sheds light onto meaningful, important topics/discussions and can just be downright amusing and entertaining!

3. What is your favourite season and why?
So guys, I LOVE rainy weather when I am having a cosy, pyjamas, stay in bed, watch movies, hot chocolate-kinda day (doesn't that make autumn/winter sound so appealing!?!). But, I also love sunny days, and how bright and happy spring and summer can be! Apparently, I just can't make decisions! Haha. But let's be real girls, do you guys struggle with coming to terms about constantly shaving your legs when summertime hits? 1 point to winter!

4. When did you start blogging and what made you start?
This year in May - it's been about 5 months today! What made me start? Well, I am a journalism student, but you can click here to read my proper post on the reasons behind me blogging! It was time for me to try something different out ☺️

5. What would you do, if you had unlimited money?
Ahhh, if I'm being 100% honest with unlimited money my thoughts immediately turn to aiding poverty. I was so involved with social justice and am incredibly passionate about relevant and related issues. Have you guys heard of the Millennium Development Goals?

Unlimited money, used in the correct way, to complement these goals (money alone can't solve these issues though) would be incredible!

6. What is your favourite makeup item you couldn't live without?
When I started wearing makeup, eyeliner was the main thing I used - liquid or pencil - I feel like it just defines my eyes (and is super easy to clean off!). I'm a sucker for lip balms, lip glosses and lipsticks though - just a pop of colour!

7. What are you planning on doing in your future?
Previously I wouldn't really know how to answer this question too clearly, but then I did this post - and it helped give me a vision for my next 5 years! At the core though, I most definitely want to make a positive difference in people's lives, so any way that I can do that will constitute what I would want to be doing in my future ☺️

8. If you could go back in time to change something, would you? If so, what would you change?
I'm a big believer in the idea that life happens for you, not to you. Every single little thing that has happened in my life has brought me to where I am now, given me the people I'm blessed to know, brought me to my mindset and given me goals that I want to achieve. For that reason, I wouldn't want to change anything in my past.

9. Are you a tea or a coffee person?
I will go with secret option Hot Chocolate, thank you! Haha, I enjoy having tea and green tea occasionally! I have only had coffee once in my life, it was when my friends realised I had never had it and bought it for me haha, wasn’t the biggest fan. Chai lattes are good though!

10. Are you a high street shopper or a designer shopper?
I am most definitely not a designer shopper, the unlimited money scenario doesn't really exist in real life :P  However, Gossip Girl definitely planted a serious love for designer fashion in me :P

I'm nominating the following bloggers, if they feel like doing the Liebster Award post ☺️
I'm aware that some of you would have done this recently, so you don't have to do it again! :P

And if you have another blog and are reading this, I nominate you too! I would love to discover your blog and get to read a bit about you - if you do this post please comment below with a link so I can check it out!

P.S. Even if you don't have a blog, or don't want to do a full post - answer one, some or all of the questions in a comment below, would love to see the different answers! ☺️

My questions for you guys:
1. What is your favourite quote?
2. What's your favourite song (or a few favourite songs) at the moment?
3. What was the last photo you took with your phone?
4. Who was the last person who sent you a text message?
5. Has October been a good month for you so far? :)
6. Do you have any nicknames?
7. What's your favourite dessert?
8. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
9. Has there been one blogging experience or post specifically that you're really proud of?
10. How would you like to be remembered by others?

And that's that! I hope you guys enjoyed getting to know me a little better!

Have a lovely week ahead!

Living by Mantras Challenge I Part 2 I

And here we are, back for Part 2!!! ☺️

If you guys didn't get a chance to read last week's post, I undertook what I like to call a Living by Mantras Challenge ☺️

Each day for seven days, one of my besties (thanks Ace! ❤️) sent me a motivational life mantra/life inspiration/quote photo - whatever you wanna call it - that I hadn't seen before.
Each day, I had to incorporate it into my life (to the best extent I could!), after figuring out what the mantra means to me.

If you read the first three days of the challenge, you would know that I ditched organising and tidying, didn't walk anywhere - just danced, and splurged on jewellery - interesting combo, hey? :P

Here’s how the next four days played out…

DAY 4: "TREAT. YO. SELF."

Legitimately, Ace sent me the above gif, it made me so happy haha.
This mantra was so exciting hehe, and probably one of the most fun - I was sooo going to take full advantage of this. I went to my friend's house that day and I decided pizza for lunch and ice-cream afterwards was definitely treating ourselves :P

I had work that night, but there was no way that I was going to let "Treat. Yo. Self." day to just end like that. One of my best friends was keen to join, she picked me up after work and we went to a dessert place near us called San Churros, because I had been wanting to try this specific dessert for SO LONG and I felt like this was the perfect opportunity:

HOW AMAZING DOES THAT LOOK. Churro/Waffle/Pancake, just yes.

BUT -
They had run out :( :( :(
However, in true dedication to the mantra I was determined that that wasn't going deter me and  put an end to the treating - hence, the churros photo underneath the mantra ☺️

(But don't you worry - Funnel Cake, I'm coming for you...)

DAY 5:"You can't just give up! Is that what a dinosaur would do?"

HAHAHA YES ACE. Fun fact about me: I. LOVE. FRIENDS. I have watched every episode probably 2-3 times (or 5-6...), so if you can quote and reference anything and everything Friends in daily life (like so many of my friends and I always do) - you are epic.

This mantra was very fitting considering my plans for the day - study, study, and more study. Wooo.
I went to my Uni Library and stayed there all day working on my assignments. I came home, and worked on my assignments some more.

There were so many points in that day where I was incredibly tempted to give into some distractions and just give up working on assignments for the day.
But did I give up? Not a chance. Because a dinosaur wouldn't do that ;)
Oh, the wise, wise words of Joey Tribbiani.

When my friends were linking videos to watch in our group chat, I just replied with this:

Hahahaha, I love that my friend didn't even question it,
she was just like "Yep. Whatever you say, Raashi".

DAY 6: "Never get so busy making a living, that you forgot to make a life."

Sooo...I was working a 9-5 day that day. On a Saturday to make things even more exciting, haha.

Hmmm, so basically this is about making sure that work isn't the only thing you're focusing on, making sure to enjoy life in whatever ways possible.

My boss wasn't in the best mind-space that day and I knew I would be super busy, so I was trying to figure out a way to make this happen!

I didn't even get my full break that day BUT, instead of sitting in the back room scoffing down some food, I decided to venture out into the sunshine and enjoy the outdoors ☺️

DAY 7: "There are dreamers, and there are realists in the world"

Read the photo above for the full mantra ^

I had made it to my final day! And this final one was beautiful and so true, but also hard for me to figure out how to tackle for the day!

The main thing to take out of this one was that both components are important - other people balance us out and we balance others out, yin and yang, opposites attract, whatever you want to call it, balance in a form like this is beautiful - it brings out the best and full potential in people.

I definitely believe that all of us have a bit of a dreamer and a bit of a realist within us, to varying extents - and we need to let each of them be, exactly what they need to be, when they need to be.

One of my friends was discussing how she had applied for something new and was a little worried about it, to which I replied with all the gifs above :P
She definitely needed a dreamer to support her and give her confidence with it all, and I was meant to be it ☺️

UPDATE: SHE TOTALLY GOT IT :D

I guess the dreamer role comes to me very naturally? :P

But, at the same time, I can very much be a realist. And I decided to embrace my inner realist when it hit 11.30pm and my dreams of completely finishing off my assignment that night were looking bleak :P

The realist in me made myself go to bed by 1am and get a solid amount of sleep, to stop me from crashing the next morning.

The dreamer in me had ensured that I had started and got so much of my assignment done that day - I only had an hour of work left to go the next day! :)

Which brings me to the...

THE END. LA FIN. COMPLETED.

Most of the mantras I experienced really taught me to focus on myself, my life and what I want - and it is SO LIBERATING. Liberating and quite motivating to do what you want, take care of yourself, have fun, treat yourself AND also recognise when you need to push yourself.

I can't help but be curious how much this challenge would change if I was doing it during a normal week at uni when I would constantly be surrounded by people (Day 2's "Why walk when you can dance?" jumps to mind, for sure :P).

If you guys enjoyed seeing this challenge, let me know!
Maybe I can do another round later :)

Anyways! Thank you so much for following my adventures, I quite liked doing a challenge so maybe there are more to come... :)

Living by Mantras Challenge I Part 1 I

Hi everyone! ☺️

I mentioned in last week's blogpost that I was undertaking a challenge and was pretty excited to see how it would turn out - well, here is Part 1 of the Results!!!

But firstly, if you haven't read about it before, what's the challenge?
Each day for seven days, one of my besties (thanks Ace! ❤️) will be sending me a motivational life mantra/life inspiration/quote photo - whatever you wanna call it - that I haven't seen before.
Each day, I will have to incorporate it into my life (to the best extent I can!) after figuring out what the mantra means to me.

So, here goes! :)

DAY 1: "I DO ENOUGH. I HAVE ENOUGH. I AM ENOUGH."

Ace - her name is Anna-Christina, we all call her A-C, but she's my Ace!☺️  - sent me my first mantra in the morning, and it wasn't too bad! I felt like I knew exactly what this one meant straight away, but I did want other people's opinions just because it's interesting!

One of my best friends, Fiona, thought it meant "I do enough to be happy/satisfied/content etc…it's like enough with trying to meet all your expectations, try to just get the basic fundamentals you need to be content, like just be present".

Ace felt like "it means you don't need to do more or change yourself or do anything, you are enough as a person."

And me? I think it means being ok if you're not getting everything you think you need to get done, done. You're enough just the way you are. Essentially, I thought it meant taking a step back and not being so hard on yourself - and appreciating what there is in your life! I started loving this mantra already - we all need a whole lot more of this in our lives!

How on earth am I going to incorporate this into my day though? This week I was on my mid-semester break from uni and the only thing on my agenda for today was cleaning my room (long overdue…sorry mum! :P). Throughout the day I was SO hyper aware of if I was giving myself any negative self-talk and immediately squashed it with 'I am enough', it's crazy how helpful a simple sentence like that actually is!

The cleaning day went on, I had cleared out my entire wardrobe and started sorting everything -  but it became late night and I was tired. Had I accomplished my goal of cleaning my entire room? No. But, you know what? I did enough for today :)

I decided sorting out all the clothes to be hung was enough ^, dumped the rest of my clothes in two drawers to sort tomorrow (reference far right photo) and called it a night!
I definitely have enough clothes ;)

Usually I'm pretty hard on myself if I don't get things done, it was refreshing to ease up and say you know what? It's ok. It's enough!

DAY 2: "Why walk when you can dance?"

Oh Ace, you know me so well. I LOVED THIS ONE.
How was I going to take on this one? LITERALLY - for sure! :P

Figuratively though, I thought it meant find fun in everything, why do something a more plain way when you can do something in a more exciting way? I was discussing it with Ace and she added on another cool point: "Enjoying every moment and living life to the full for sure, and like work to our maximum not minimum, in a strange way. Like if walking is the minimum, then dancing is giving your full potential, giving everything you have." I love all these points so much.

I definitely apply this mantra a whole lot already when I'm around the house :P I don't know about you guys, but sometimes when I can take my time and cook some dinner I put on music and dance around the kitchen cooking :) Don't judge, join me! Hehe. But that day I took it to the next level - it was 8.45 am and I was jamming to Beyoncé - not mad about it. ;)

Besides the day being a constant work out, it was definitely a whole lot of fun!

DAY 3: "Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the **** you were gonna do anyway."

Ahhh, this will be interesting. I immediately sent Ace a message saying:

But also - this was so against what I'm usually like haha.

A while back I had mentioned to mum I was really wanting to buy some charms for my Pandora bracelet, but she suggested just waiting for a bit which normally I agree with, especially when it comes to shopping and the potential of sales.

Thing is, Pandora stores don't really tend to have sales… :)

If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen...I decided I was just going to buy some charms anyway *insert covering eyes monkey emoji*. It definitely made me happy haha.

I did struggle with this mantra a little bit just because it's not quite like me. But, after getting each mantra in the morning I would make a conscious effort to keep them on my mind all day:  One thing I did notice about this day was JUST. HOW. LIBERATING. it was to put your feelings, thoughts, needs and wants as the first priority (even if in reality it can't and shouldn't always be the case).

It was a bit insane to see how focusing on one phrase a day could have such a big impact on your mindset and feelings!

The rest of the week?
Days 4-7 coming your way next week!
See whether following all these mantras took me down the path of enlightenment! :P

One Lovely Blog Award!

Hi guys!
A bit of random, unscheduled pop up from me! :)

I'm going to be honest and say this weekend has been crazy busy for me and today I have been slaving away at my computer working on two assignments I have due soon...I needed a break.

So, I decided there was no better time to do some quick, lighthearted writing, get refreshed and get straight back into the studyflow of things! :P

Last week, I was nominated by Aeriko for two awards, so I thought I would get around to doing one today! :)

Firstly - thank you so much to Aeriko at The Reading Armchair for the nomination :)

The rules for this award are:
  • Say Thank you to the person that nominated you
  • Explain the rules of the award
  • Say seven random facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 other bloggers
  • Display the badge/logo of the award in your blog

Seven Random Facts About Myself

1. I lived in Holland for 3 years.

2. I have played the violin, piano and alto saxophone before when I was younger, I want to get back into piano soon!

3. If you think you've met the biggest sweet tooth, think again - I'm a next level sweet tooth. :P

4. I love proper breakfasts. Breakfast (and brunch for that matter) is one of the best meal times, in my opinion! Smashed avocado, omelettes, mushrooms, waffles, french toast, you name it! :P When I was little I used to get bored of cereal very easily and started really disliking it, I don't mind it now though.

5. I love, love, love reading quotes and motivational words all.the.time.

6. I love playgrounds a whole lot! I could chill on a swing all day long.

7. It is my dream to go to Paris one day - I have been there once before when I was little, but all I cared about was Disneyland Paris. :P I studied French all throughout high school and if you ask my friends, they know I adore anything and everything Parisian. Can't wait to go back and truly appreciate and soak up the culture!

Hope you enjoyed finding out seven really random facts about me!
Now, not often am I a rulebreaker but I'm totally going to do it now...

(P.S. I can probably add another fact - amongst my friends I am known as the Emoji Queen - and I'm very proud of it. Hahahaha, I love emojis! I wish I could insert them everywhere in my blogposts, it  actually pains me that I can't, because I'm not going to lie - I'm somewhat of a professional emoji storyteller when I send messages to people... :P)

Anyways, totally diverted from the original train of thought there...whoops. :P
So, I was saying I'm going to break a rule today and not nominate any specific bloggers - instead whoever is reading this post and would like to put up a quick, random, fun Lovely Blog Award/Seven Facts About Myself post, please do! Be sure to leave a comment below so I can check yours out! :)

See you back here soon for my Living on Mantras Challenge!!!
So, so excited to share the results with you guys! :)

New blog post will be up this Tuesday!!!

Until then, you can Follow my blog with Bloglovin
